INTRODUCTION
Every year during the month of June, the flag of the Philippines is widely seen around the country. It is because we celebrate the remarkable date in the history of our country- the Independence Day (Araw ng Kasarinlan; also known as Araw ng Kalayaan). June 12 is a National Holiday and it is celebrated not only here in the Philippines but also around the world in all Filipino Communities. 119 years ago when President Emilio Aguinaldo announced the independence of the Philippines from Spain at Kawit, Cavite. On the said event, Philippine National Flag was unfurled together with the performance of the “Marcha Filipina Magdalo”, which was later known as “Lupang Hinirang” (National Anthem). Now, we are all grateful for the gift of sovereignty.
